This work, premiered in 1724, has established itself as one of the most striking oratorios on the Passion of Christ. Johann Sebastian Bach composed music both intense and powerfully theatrical. Performed by the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin working alongside the RIAS Kammerchor, the score is magnified by the two renowned and canonical German ensembles.
