Embark on a journey East with this concert, in which Sonia Wieder-Atherton’s imaginative cello dialogues with the violin, the zarb – an Iranian percussion instrument – and the cimbalom. Written from Russian folk tunes, Benjamin Britten’s Cello Suite, composed in 1971 for Mstislav Rostropovitch, flourishes alongside the elegant style of 18th-century composer Luigi Boccherini and the inventive music of Georges Aperghis.
